10th Annual Safety Week Program - 11/23/2004

Fujitec recently hosted its 10th annual Safety Awareness Week at the Lebanon, Ohio, facility. This year, over 100 local children attended with their teachers to learn about elevator, escalator and moving walkway safety.

The lessons taught during the event were reinforced by an entertaining interactive video created and produced by the Elevator and Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF). The kids really enjoyed automated test that followed the online video,” one teacher said. “They appeared very excited when they got the answers correct.”

Another highlight of the visit was the tours of the Fujitec research tower which gave the kids a chance to see first hand how elevators and escalators work. In the elevator viewing area, students saw an actual hoistway, allowing them to safely view the counterweight, cab, car top, ropes, guide rails, etc. In addition, the students were able to see the inner-workings of escalators, thanks to the Plexiglas observation area along the truss.

This year, children were also given the opportunity to ride Fujitec’s new Talon elevator. “They really enjoyed watching how the Talon machine works through the glass wall in the cab interior,” said Michele Phelps, director of marketing.

Fujitec America is a founding member of the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation and promotes the proper use of elevator and escalator equipment for local second-graders each November.
